What is Roulette?

Roulette is a casino game that consists of a wheel and a betting table.

A small ball is introduced to a round wheel set upon a table that has pockets for each of the 37 to 38 numbers contained in the game version you are playing.

Players use the betting table to place chips on bets that includes colors, mathematical conditions, number combinations and table locations.  The wheel rotates clockwise while the ball rotates around the outer rim of the wheel in a counterclockwise direction.

The winning number is decided when the ball falls into and stays in one of the numbered pockets.

What does roulette mean in English?

The English translation of the French word “roulette” is “little wheel” and refers to the round wheel used in the game of roulette. The three main roulette game variations include French, European and American.

The French and European wheel has 18 red numbers and 18 black numbers from 1 to 36 as well as a single green 0. The American wheel has an additional green double zero

What Is The Origin of Roulette?

The current versions of Roulette have evolved from many variations.

Frenchman Blaise Pascal is credited with the creation of the wheel. Roulette was similar to the Italian game of Biribi played in 1720 which included numbers from 1 to 70.

In 1796 Paris, the wheel had one red o and one black 00. In 1843 Frenchmen François and Louis Blanc offered roulette with the single 0 in Germany.  The 1862 the first casino opened in Monte Carlo featuring the single 0 game.

Original American roulette games included one zero, one double zero, one American Eagle and the numbers 1 to 28.

What types of roulette games can you play?

Today, there are three different roulette game variations and two different types of roulette wheels.

Roulette Games: The three basic roulette games variations today are European, French and American roulette.

  • European Roulette = One green zero plus 36 alternating red and black numbers from 1 to 36. 
  • French Roulette = The same as European Roulette with an additional special bets table and La Partage & En Prison rules on even money bets.
  • American Roulette = The same as European Roulette with an additional green 00.

Roulette Wheel Layouts: The two primary roulette wheel layouts are generally referred to as the European and American wheel.

  • European and French Wheels = Contains 37 different numbers in the series of 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, 25, 17, 34, 6, 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, 33, 1, 20, 14, 31, 9, 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3 and 26 with the numbers facing inward.
  • American Roulette Wheel =Contains 38 different numbers in the series of 0, 28, 9, 26, 30, 11, 7, 20, 32, 17, 5, 22, 34, 15, 3, 24, 36, 13, 1, 00, 27, 10, 25, 29, 12, 8, 19, 31, 18, 6, 21, 33, 16, 4, 23, 35, 14 and 2 with the numbers facing outward.

 

What numbers are lucky and unlucky in roulette?

In the US, the numbers 17, 7 and 3 are considered lucky, while the number 13 is believed to be unlucky.

  • In Casino Royale, James Bond won on 17 three times in a row.
  • Lucky number 7 is similar to a win on a roll out bet in craps.
  • Good things are said to “always come in threes”.
  • The number 13 has been historically been “bad luck”.

Why is roulette called the Devils Game?

The numbers on European and French Roulette wheel go from 0 to 36. When you add them all up, you come up with a total of 666, a number historically tied to the Devil. (image)

Is winning on roulette just luck?

Roulette and all casino games give the house a mathematical edge over players.

Luck is indeed a part of winning. Players can improve their “luck” by picking the best game variation and by varying their bet amounts during play.

Can you win at roulette?

If you a genius called Albert Einstein, the answer is no!

While visiting a Vegas Casino, Einstein said “No one can possibly win at roulette unless he steals money from the table while the croupier isn’t looking.” (image)

Is the roulette wheel rigged?

Legitimate casinos do not rig roulette wheels.

All roulette games have a built in “house advantage”. Unless there is cheating or the game is imperfectly operated, eventually, the “house” will always win.

How Many Casinos Are Located in Atlantic City?

There are nine active casinos in Atlantic City.

They are Bally’s Atlantic City, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Caesars At Atlantic City, Golden Nugget Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City, Resorts Casino Hotel, Tropicana Casino Resort, Hard Rock Atlantic City and Ocean Casino Resort.

Trump Taj Mahal was closed and reopened as the Hard Rock. The Revel also closed and reopened as the Ocean Resort Casino.

What is an International Players vs a USA Player?

We use the term USA Player for refer to a resident of the USA. We refer to all others as International Players. For an example check out our International Players Vs USA Players post.

What is a dolly in roulette ?

After the winning number is known in roulette, the croupier will place a round marker over the winning number. The marker is called “a dolly” and helps to identify the winning number and prevent past posting. (image)

How is the Labouchere system used in roulette?

The Labouchere roulette betting system uses even money bets on red/black, even/odd and high/low to make a predetermined profit.

Then they come up with a series of numbers that total the amount of money they want to win. Bets are the total of the first and last numbers in the sequence. If the bet is won, those numbers are crossed off the list. However, when you lose, you add the bet amount to the end of the list.

What is a social media game?

A social media game is one that plays on social networks such as Facebook that do not involve the real money games.

Both Google and iTunes have apps for their operating system that easily install and play on mobile devices. The apps themselves can be free or paid apps for small amounts of money.

Some apps include advertising which can usually be eliminated by paying a small upgrade fee. Additional services and special features may also have an added cost and require an upgrade.
